” What price must a man pay in order to jump the queue in the patriarchal world?”

       - Kim Richard Adler Mejdahl

“A hole made through a wall or partition to enable people to perform sex acts anonymously”

       - Glory hole Definition  (Merriam-Webster)

The hole, which breaks the wall’s otherwise smooth surface, is an invitation to connect without words, without a face, without reservations. Historically, the holes have been places of refuge for the tabooed and stigmatised, and for those whose sexuality was forbidden or overlooked. In the GLORY exhibition, the hole is also a symbol for something bigger: a keyhole into another world, a window into patriarchy’s destructive narratives.

GLORY is the result of a curatorial cooperation between KØN and the multidisciplinary artist Kim Richard Adler Mejdahl, who has had free rein to reinterpret KØN’s collection of historical items. Together, they go through the opening and investigate what is on the other side. Based on the themes of masculinity, sexuality and vulnerability, the exhibition examines how wedding photos, carpet beaters and collection tins can help to fulfil the longing for freedom, transformation and a place in the world.

“GLORY suggests how we can move on from the classic patriarchal culture to a more inclusive world by sharpening our metaphorical insight. Everything is seen from a gay perspective as, because of my sexuality,

I have especially felt the bludgeon of patriarchy.”
